O-MOK-SEE EVENTS
(Games Played on Horseback)
The Montana Saddle Club Association adopted the Blackfeet Indian word O-Mok-See, meaning “Riding Big.” Every year, more Montanans realize what a truly great sport O-Mok-See is.
The one thing that makes O-Mok-Sees as great as they are is that the entire family competes and enjoys their horses together.
The MSCA is an organization of saddle clubs from all over the state that enjoy meeting and competing together. The competition is the very keenest, but with the greatest regard for fair play and sportsmanship. The MSCA hosts a State Championship O-Mok-See annually over Labor Day Weekend. The National Saddle Club Association (NSCA) holds a National O-Mok-See annually. The 2010 NSCA O-Mok-See will be held at the Billings Saddle Club September 4 & 5, 2010. See www.omoksee.com and http://www.normanswesternwear.com/#msca.
All games at the Billings Saddle club will be conducted under the rules of the M.S.C.A. and N.S.C.A. rulebooks and may be obtained from the Horse Activities Chairman.
Different types of O-Mok-Sees held at BSC:
Intra-Club: For BSC members ride for ribbon and points. Overall hi-point riders in each age group will receive awards at end of the year from BSC. Entry fees are $7.00 flat fee for members and $15.00 flat fee for non-members (no points).
Open: Open to everyone. Contestants will receive a ribbon for placing. No points are accumulated toward year-end awards. On occasion a high point award is given for the day.
Jackpot: No ribbons or points are given. Entry money is split between the first 4 places in each event.
YEAR-END AWARDS: BSC members accumulate points from Intra-Club O-Mok-Sees held in spring and summer in the following manner:
High point awards are given each fall in several age groups. Points won at National O-Mok-See and State O-Mok-See count at face value toward the high point awards. Members must ride in at least 60% of the Intra-Club events to qualify for year-end high point awards.
AGE GROUPS: The age groups for 2010 will be Under 8, 8-11, 12-15, 16-39, and 40 and Over. Ribbons will be awarded through fourth place. Riders must ride in 60% of the scheduled Intra-Club O-Mok-Sees to qualify for year-end awards.
TIMES: All O-Mok-Sees begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise announced. Registration begins one hour before and closes 15 minutes before events start.
CANCELLATIONS: Usually, no cancellations due to weather or unless Chairman calls you. If in doubt, call the Chairman of that O-Mok-See or the Horse Activities Chairman (373-6736).
NON-MEMBER PARTICIPATION: Non-member riders may compete in all O-Mok-Sees for a flat fee entry fee of $15.00.
DRESS CODE: The MSCA dress code will be enforced for all Club O-Mok-Sees, with the exception that a 5 second penalty will be assessed if a hat is lost in the arena while competing. The current MSCA Dress Code is:
